OCR: a kid has trouble imagining himself ever living long enough to make it to adulthood, we have trouble imagining our culture developing past its present, childhood level. Admittedly, an apocalypse sounds better than a stage of civilization-wide adolescence, but this, too, will pass. What I'll attempt to show in this book is that the more frightening aspects of a non-apocalyptic future are being addressed today, and quite directly, by the most pop-cultural experiences of children and young adults.
